Changing color of background behind text

Hello,

I'm using Jillij as a jumping-off point for a website I'm creating, and I want to change the color scheme pretty completely. I created new images for the jillijbgwide.gif, jillijbgtop.gif, and jillijbgbottom.gif so that they would display the color I wanted, but for some reason it looks like the white is appearing over top of them anyway.

The site is visible here: http://www.newdesignschool.org/students/lgauch/wordpress/

The creamy color behind the text is the color I ultimately want to cover everything that's white in the default Jillij theme.

My question is, how can Iget my new images to display? I tried replacing the original files with mine, but as you can see, the white still displays. I also wanted to edit the code so it would go looking for my images instead, but I couldn't figure out how to get access to the HTML that specifies Jillij's original images.

Please help me!

Many thanks,

eloriane
