Menubar position problem in FF not IE

I am helping a friend with custimizing the jillij theme, I edited the CSS to make the theme wide enough for a 900px wide header image.

Problem is that now in Firefox the menubar is all the way to the left instead of aligning with the left side of the header image.  It aligns correctly with the header image in IE, not sure what is going on.  You can see what I am talking about at karolquinnphotography.com/blog

I think I solved the issue, not sure if this is the way to do it or not, but I added the following to the #sidebar css style

left: 30px;

Now the menu is correctly lined up with the left edge of the header image in both Firefox and IE.  If there is a better way to do this please let me know.
