Photon close to working with PWG 1.7

I have PWG 1.7 with WP 2.2, I wanted to integrate them. Photon does not support (yet?) PWG 1.7.
That did not stop me, I am a developer(1), so I should be able to adapt it… well I should ;)

I’m getting close to it actually. I’m able to activate and configure the plug-in. It works on the front page of Wordpress where I can see the link in my pages and my 4 PWG categories.
However, if I click on any of this link (which should bring me a view of the album categories or sub-categories) I get a blank page. No HTML is generated at all. Though, the URL seems correct (like http://192.168.159.128/tir-na-nog/?a=phpwebgallery)

I cannot give you a link because my web server is yet in a virtual machine (I’m on the move, so I carry it with me), but I will try to post a link to the modification I have done on the plug-in. Basically, they all concern the file photo-func.php, the photon theme for PWG, which I have updated for the new PWG 1.7, and the config_local_inc.php.

My question are:
  - perhaps in previous version of Photon, you had a similar problem and you knew how to solve it. Cuold you tell me how you did it?
  - you can perhaps tell me what function of the plug-in is triggered when a page like ‘?a=phpwebgallery’ is accessed?
  - do I have a potential misconfiguration on my web server ? I’m using Ubuntu 7.04 with Apache 2 and MySQL. WP and PWG are working properly (even with mod_rewrite, though it is not the default)
  - do you know how to debug PHP? I miss my ddd…. :(
  - any other feedback, even ‘good luck’ ;) is warmly welcome!

(1): I’m a developer, not a web developer ;)

PS: if you prefer to talk in French, tell me and I will open a thread in the French section…

Hi huygens,

Thanks for sharing !
Well first, I don’t think it is a misconfig of the server, if you made it to work with previous version of phpwebgallery on your server, it should work in theory.

Apart from that, blank page error could be a problem in phpwebgallery stopping curl to access its pages. You should try to have curl display its result.
Curl is a module of php, photon is using it.
To test php, you can ask it to echo the results of the variables regularly.
I am not a pro so maybe there are other ways but this one seems the simpler.

(1) I am not even a developer :-)

I have some free time this weekend So I’ll try to help you in that…
Thanks a lot.

Thanks Jillij for the information. I will try your idea this evening. I will also try to put the modifications somewhere accessible.
However, how do you tell PHP to echo variables regularly?

OK I’m done :-) Photon is working with my PWG 1.7 installation :)

I have build-up a small web page, mainly fo Jillij to download the updated plug-in. It is accessible via this link: http://www.berthon.eu/photon.html

I have updated the photon template for PWG, so it matches the new PWG 1.7 template.
I have performed a few updates also in the plug-in itself, as well as several bug corrections.
It is not always clean updates/correction, I’m too new with WordPress internal structure :-(

As for my initial problem (which could occur also with Photon 4.2 and PWG 1.6.x), it is because you have an empty photontemplate.php file in your WordPress current theme.
The first time you access your gallery via Photon, it generates the mentionned PHP file. However, it expect a certain format in your WordPress template file, if it is not the expected one, it just create an empty file. Now, if it is not the expected output, you get an error message. You will have to update your WP template (instructions are given in the readme.txt, it is th optional step 7).

But I have still great expectation for Photon 5 :-) good luck Jillij and many thanks for this plug-in!

Hello

thanks for this new version, I was waiting it to update my PWG to 1.7
But I have a problem with "random picture" in my wordpress

instead of insert 5 randoms images as on my blog ( http://blog.damageux.fr ), this version show also categories & title on my "test-blog" ( http://lucasdamageux.free.fr/damageux-fr/blog/ )

exemple : "Voitures 37 images dans 6 sous-catégories" …

But great work, I think some bugs need to be check & fix but it’s on a good way :)

have a nice day
