First of all, I do not want to seem unappreciative of your hard work - so thank you. I see that this could be a great plugin, and it obviously works for plenty of people.

I have only had problems.

MY INFO:
WordPress 2.1.2
MySQL 4.0.24_Debian-10sarge2
PHP 4.3.10-19
phpwebgallery 1.7.0RC2
Photon v4.1

I have only one database on my server, and it contains both WordPress and phpWebGallery.

DIRECTORY STRUCTURE:
WordPress: /html/blog/
Photon: /html/blog/wp-content/plugins/photon/
phpWebGallery: /html/phpwebgallery/

I am using a heavily modified theme. I wouldn’t really even consider it a theme anymore.

THE PROBLEMS:

Followed installation instructions to the letter.

The first problem came with your instruction: #3 Upload photon.php and photon folder in plugins folder of Wordpress. It is not clear what you are saying to do. It sounds like you are saying to go into photon folder, upload photon.php to the WP plugins folder, then upload the photon folder to plugins folder. However, this caused errors. Nothing would work until I moved the photon.php file back inside the photon folder.

Logged in to phpwebgallery to do the settings. Activated the plugin on WP. Went back to phpwebgallery to run tests.

Went to configuration page and selected photon/clear for the interface theme. At that point, it created findfile errors, and it became impossible to access phpwebgallery to change it back. I eventually had to delete photon and phpwebgallery from my server, and delete the phpwebgallery entries from the database.

I downloaded a new zip of photon and phpwebgallery, as well as previous versions, just to be sure I was not working with corrupted files.

Went through installation again. Again, when I got to the configuration page, selected photon/clear and moved to the next page. I then selected "General" from the "Configuration" menu. The error I received was:

Template->make_filename(): Error - file ./template/photon/admin/tabsheet.tpl does not exist

Logged in on FTP to search for the file, and indeed, tabsheet.tpl does not exist in your template. So, I just borrowed the tabsheet.tpl file from the ‘yoga’ template. Dropped it in the photon admin template, and reloaded the PWG. It worked to solve the error, but there is nothing on the general configuration page, so I assume that there is something still missing.

I went to go to the next page, and it happened again, only this time, the error was for ‘profile_content.tpl’ — I did the same solution as for tabsheet. Borrowed it from ‘yoga’.

I checked and there are other missing tpl files from your template and admin folders, which so far have not been an issue as far as I can tell, but I assume they will at some point. picture_content.tpl, profile_content and slideshow.tpl are all missing from Template — and history.tpl, profile.tpl, tabsheet.tpl, ws_checker.tpl are all missing from Admin.

SO, now I was able to move ahead - kind of. All three of the configuration pages seem screwed up. If I click on any of the configuration selections, they will either go to a page that only contains the "Submit" and "Reset" buttons, or they will all go to the same configuration page where it says "conf_default_title" in the corner, has the configuration form (with language, images per row, interface theme, etc…) but you can not enter any numbers and the drop down menus are all blank.

I went forward to the "Instructions" and I was able to make the test-category on phpwebgallery. I followed their instructions exactly. I went to my website and tested the gallery. It looked ok. It seemed to integrate with my theme fairly well, aside from the fact that I couldn’t configure the number of rows or anything.

Then I clicked on a thumbnail. This took me to a page (within my page-content container in my theme) that said:

Phpwebgallery photon template not installed

WHAAAAT?!

If I switch the theme to PWG default or yoga, and turn off photon, I am able to use PWG without any problems at all. So, I don’t think the problem is with PWG.

So… at this point I am not going to continue to try and figure this out on my own. I don’t know enough. If anyone has suggestions, then great, otherwise… it just isn’t worth it.

Thank you again,

Asher
