What if you could be a period-free woman?

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I had this funny idea today which technically should be possible in a distant future.

We are all afraid of genetic, but slowly we will accept the idea of creating new species and maybe in a distant future to modify our genome. In Neurosciences, we are already working , every day, with genetically modified mice. And it is a very powerfull tool to study human diseases. I am pretty sure that we won’t refuse the possibility to eradicate some horrible genetic diseases by “tuning” our genome. But please don’t take this too seriously. I am speculating…

Anyway, let’s go to my main point. The main difference between a woman and a man is the infamous period which more or less comes every month. What if, somehow, we create a genetically modified woman with no period? I mean a woman who, instead of taking a pill every day of its life, will take one only when she wants a kid (to induce its period). In genetic, it’s called a knock-in and it’s already possible to induce some protein synthesis with a certain chemical (eaten by the animal).

In the end, it would be exactly like the pill but working the opposite way…

So let’s come to my question, do you think it would be a good idea to have pill-induced-period woman?
Here is a poll just to see what you think, guys. I don’t have any opinion on this question, just curious to know what you think.

Paris on bike

Velib

Those of you who have been traveling around and passed by Paris probably noticed this new bike system called Velib’ (for freedom bike). The principle is simple. There is now a network of small bike stations in Paris (every few hundreds meters) where you can take a bike to go anywhere. You have 30 minutes to deposit it at another station. A year pass is 30 euros, and a week is 5 euros, so that in the end it’s really cheap. And it’s really impressive.
I have been riding my bike in Paris for a few years now and I have never seen so many of them.

Not only the velib’ bikes are everywhere, but also it seems like all of the forgotten ones who have stayed for years in caves are now out up and running. In the last few weeks, I have seen Parisian families going around Paris on bike. Sometimes only one out of 4 has a velib’. I talked to a grandmother who was trying bike nearly for the first time.

A few days ago, I even saw a group of 10 girls having a “bachelorette party” on bikes!

So eventually, bikes found their path to freedom in Paris!

Here it is!

Nicolas Sarkozy is elected with 53% , a frank advantage for an election whose participation is about 85% ( a record ).
No doubt on France choice. We’ll see what the big guy will do. I just hope he is not gonna make suburb more explosive (if it is possible).

Anyway, you guys elected Royal without any doubt too. I agree, she seemed to be the one who would have reduce the tensions between communauties.

We’ll see…

Broomstick

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

BalaiToday was cleaning day and this very deep and important thought came into my head.

Why are all the broomstick in the world so short!!!!

It looks like they are designed for the people from the last century. If someone knows an industrial in broomstick, please let him know that men gained 20 cm recently! This is a major health matter! Or should I conclude that Broomstick are designed for women (who are slighlty smaller on average?)
